Cordell was a Resident Assistant with the Office of Residential Life at SUNY College at Old Westbury during the 2002-03 school year and was the Team Manager/Director of Men's Basketball operation from 2001-03.  He graduated with honors from Old Westbury in 2003.  In his new role, Cordell is the Intramural Recreation Coordinator and an Assistant Coach for Men's Basketball.  He is currently pursuing his Masters of Science in Sports Science from the United States Sports Academy and is expected to graduate in 2008.

Cordell has teaching and Athletic Administration experience in the New York City Public Schools, organizes basketball tournament at the AAU level, and provides guidance, mentoring and life skills training to economically disadvantage youth in the NYC area.

Cordell Grooms played Division III basketball at John Jay College from 1990-92.  He was a two year captain and averaged 17 points per game for his career.  During the 1991-92 seasons, he received ECAC Player of the Week honors 5 times, led the CUNYAC in scoring with 22 points per game average, and was an All ECAC Metro Honorable Mention selection.  He graduated John Jay College with a B.A. in Behavioral Science in 1992.
