Harris Rappel is in his second year as Sports Information Director and NCAA Compliance Officer at SUNY College at Old Westbury. On the Sports Information side, Rappel oversees the athletic department's sports media relations efforts, sports information, marketing, as well as student and community development. On the Compliance end, Rappel monitors eligibility and serves as the compliance liaison to the NCAA, ECAC, and Skyline Conference offices.
Prior to joining the Panthers, Rappel served as Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Brooklyn Kings of the USBL (United States Basketball League) and most recently as Director of Business Development and Sports Information Director for the National Pro-Am City Leagues Association. In 2004, Rappel was named Assistant Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Brooklyn Kings, a position he held until being promoted to Vice President of Basketball Operations in 2005. During his tenure as Vice President of Basketball Operations, Rappel played a pivotal role in the development of the Kings organization in which he oversaw the Kings player personnel, media relations, community relations, compliance, marketing, special events, operations and broadcast.
Rappel's employment background also includes roles with the Hartford FoxForce of the World Team Tennis Association, Harlem Strong Dogs of the American Basketball Association and coaching positions at Five-Star Basketball Camps.
Rappel is currently a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA), CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association) for athletic communications professionals and NACMA (National Association Collegiate Marketing Administrators)
A native of Long Beach, New York, Rappel received a Bachelor's
Degree in Entrepreneurial Studies and Business Management from the
University of Hartford. In 2005 he received a Post Graduate
Degree in Para Legal Studies from Nassau Community College.
