KEIZER, OR. - Former SUNY College at Old Westbury star Robert Whitenack made his professional debut on Wednesday night, in a relief appearance for the Boise Hawks in their Class A game against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. Salem-Keizer defeated Boise 5-3 to improve to 4-1, while the Hawks slipped to 0-5.

SECAUCUS, N.J.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury junior right-handed pitcher Robert Whitenack (North Massapequa, N.Y.) was chosen by the Chicago Cubs in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball Draft held at the MLB Network Studios in Secaucus, New Jersey Wednesday afternoon. He was the 260th selection overall, becoming the first ever Panther to be drafted by a Major League team and was the first Division III player taken in the 2009 draft.

POMONA, N.J.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team set a school record with 22 wins in 2009, but the sixth-seeded Richard Stockton Ospreys ended the Panthers season on Wednesday with a 5-0 topping in the First Round of the ECAC Metro Region Tournament in Pomona, New Jersey. Old Westbury slipped to 22-14 overall while Richard Stockton (26-13) advances to the second round.
