Old Westbury Womens Basketball displayed poise and progress in their second season under head coach Mike Krasnoff. The Lady Panthers not only recorded a winning record, but also won more Skyline Conference games than ever. Old Westbury (14-13, 5-8 Skyline Conference) earned a Skyline Conference post season tournament game at home against Centenary College, and won it (62-51) before being defeated in the second round. The team improved their final overall record by five wins, with three additional wins in the Skyline.
Moreover, the season was highlighted by several impressive individual student athletes. F Ashley Embry emerged as a potentially dominant player in the conference. Embry won the Skyline Rookie of the Week Award six times during the season, on the way to being named a Skyline All Star (second team) and ProHealth MVP, Womens Basketball. The first year student from Hempstead led the Lady Panthers in points per game (13.6), rebounds per game (9.9) and steals (54).
Embry was joined by junior F/C Christina Squillante as a Skyline All Star (honorable mention). Squillante averaged 12.9 PPG, at a shooting percentage of .450, and made 55 of 74 free throws (.743). Embry and Squillante were both headline makers, subjects of feature reporting of their achievements in the regions dominant daily newspaper (Newsday, 01/27/04, 10/22/03 respectively).
Also among the many fine performances posted by the Lady Panthers: Junior F/C Rachele Yambaye led all shooters with a .523 FG percentage in limited play?and junior Julliette George earned the ProHealth Most Improved Player award for Womens Basketball.
