Panthers Lose Lead, ECAC Semi Final, in Ninth

PANTHERS LOSE LEAD, ECAC SEMI FINAL IN NINTH

(Old Westbury, NY) Saturday, May 08, 2004 --- The Old Westbury baseball season concluded today with a one run loss in the semi final of the ECAC Metro Region Division III Baseball tournament. The second seeded Panthers entered the ninth inning clinging to a 6-5 lead, however third seed Centenary College (28-11) scored twice without a hit to notch a 7-6 win. Pinch runner Sean Savage (Delran, NJ) took advantage of an error in the field to tie the game at six. SS Brandon Perrine (North Hunterdon, NJ) scored the game winner on a grounder put into play by 1B Ken Collura (Wantage, NJ).

For Old Westbury (21-15), highlights included a two run seventh inning, which gave the Panthers a temporary lead. Moreover, Senior C Manny Ruiz (Bronx, NY) had an outstanding day at the plate, going three for five, including a double and a triple. RF Joe Nuzzolese (Wantagh, NY) also had a good day at the plate, going three for five with a run batted in.
