WELCOME BACK FROM THE S.I.D.: Here?s hoping 2004 is off to as exciting a start for all members of the College at Old Westbury community as it is for us in Athletics. The January calendar is filled with events both on and off campus?great opportunities to support your Panthers and Lady Panthers. GERVAIS, EMBRY WIN SKYLINE ROOKIE HONORS

(Little Neck, NY) undated --- College at Old Westbury Basketball continues to impress the Skyline Conference. Most recently, first year students Carl Gervais and Ashley Embry won their respective Rookie of the Week awards in Skyline men?s and women?s basketball.

Gervais, named Monday January 6, averaged nine points per game in three games over the holiday break. His hot streak included 13 points and seven rebounds against NY City College of Technology (12/30/03). The 6?7? forward from the Bronx added eight against Alvernia College (01/03/04) and six points against Hobart College (01/04/04) during the Panther?s weekend at the Lancaster (PA) Rotary Tip Off the New Year Tournament

Embry was named Skyline Rookie of the Week December 22, on the strength of a double-double against the College of Mt St Vincent, The 5?9?? forward from Hempstead scored a team-leading 16 points and 12 rebounds (12/18/03). Embry continues to lead the Lady Panthers averaging 13.7 PPG and 10.7 rebounds per game. It was her second Skyline Rookie of the Week award, having previously been named December 2.

Gervais and Embry were selected by Skyline Conference publicist Kim McNulty, based in Little Neck.

EMBRY NAMED TO JJC ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM

(New York, NY) Sunday, January 4, 2004 --- First year forward Ashley Embry averaged 12.5 PPG and seven rebounds per game at the John Jay College Bloodhound Blowout?earning a spot on the All Tournament team in the process. Embry scored seventeen and pulled down five rebounds against host John Jay, and posted another strong effort the following day against Lincoln University (PA), scoring eight and grabbing five rebounds. Old Westbury (4-6, 0-2 Skyline) dropped both games, 48-56 and 52-67 respectively. NEXT GAME FOR LADY PANTHER WBB: Saturday January 10 at Mt St Mary College, 200 PM

(Old Westbury, NY) undated --- Please Note: Saturday, January 10 will offer an event which should not be missed by any College at Old Westbury student, staff or faculty member. The Panthers travel to New Haven (CT) for a regular season men?s basketball game against Division I Yale University. It will mark the first time Old Westbury men?s basketball has played an NCAA Division I opponent. Coach Tomlin?s team is off to a great start with 6 wins and 3 losses (2-0 Skyline) and Saturday?s 300 PM game is an opportunity for ALL to show their pride in our team and the strides they continue to make.

Old Westbury Athletics is offering a limited number of free admission tickets to this historic match up, Please call 516-876-3032 or by 12 noon Friday January 9th, and request a free admission, available on a first call-first served basis. A limited number of seats are also available on a Free Fan Van, which will depart from the Clark Athletic Center at 1100 AM Saturday and return following the game.

Driving Directions to the John J. Lee Amphitheater, in the Payne Whitney Gymnasium on the Yale University campus:

From I-95 via Throggs Neck or Bronx/Whitestone Bridge: Proceed from NYC/Bronx/Westchester on I-95 to New Haven (CT). Watch for I-91 North and take it to Trumbull Street Exit 3. Continue to the end of Trumbull Street to the fourth traffic light. Turn left onto Prospect Street and continue for one block. At light take a right onto Grove Street (it becomes Tower Parkway). Go approximately 1/2 mile and when road bends to the left; Payne Whitney Gymnasium is the 9-story building in front of you. The John J. Lee Amphitheater is inside the gymnasium building.

Via Metro North Commuter Railroad: Through trains DEPART Grand Central Terminal, NYC at 1107am, 1207pm, arriving in New Haven at 1250pm and 150pm respectively. Taxis or ground transportation available from New Haven RR station to Yale University campus. Hourly service returns to NYC following game. Adult fare is 32 dollars round trip from GCT.

MEN?S BASKETBALL WRAP UP? The Panthers closed out 2003 with a 76-74 win against New York City College of Technology (12/30/03). A successful jump shot by F Carl Gervais with 18 seconds remaining in regulation broke a 74 point tie Old Westbury (6-3, 2-0 Skyline) traveled to Lancaster PA for Franklin and Marshall?s Rotary New Year Tip Off Tournament, dropping a decision to Alvernia College 65-87 (01/03/04), and sustaining an overtime loss to Hobart College 82-86 (01/04/04).
