Crunch Time in the Skyline Conference
Jan 20, 2004

LADY PANTHERS HOST FARMINGDALE, PANTHER MEN HOST KINGS POINT IN SATURDAY PM BASKETBALL DOUBLEHEADER

(Old Westbury, NY) undated --- “Two games, two conference rivals, on a single afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center.” Such could be the storyline for Saturday, January 24th as Old Westbury women’s and men’s basketball play home games against two Skyline opponents from nearby instructions.

Head Coach Mike Krasnoff’s Lady Panthers are currently 2-4 in the Skyline Women’s Basketball Conference East Division (7-8 overall through 01/20/04) and will open the twin bill against Farmingdale State, first in the East and undefeated in league play with five wins (7-3 overall). Third place Old Westbury WBB is coming off a stunning 61-55 win at Manhattanville (01/17/04) and a 52-44 home win against SUNY Purchase (01/20/04).

The Panther Men will face defending Skyline Men’s Basketball champion Kings Point at 200 PM, renewing their rivalry most recently contested via a tightly played 61-65 Skyline Tournament loss (02/27/03). However, both teams have conference games scheduled for Thursday, January 22 as Head Coach Bernard Tomlin’s Panthers play at Manhattanville, while the Mariners visit Farmingdale State. As of Thursday, Old Westbury was in first place in the East Division of the Skyline, undefeated with three wins (7-6 overall), and most recently dropped a 46-51 decision to non conference Drew University (01/19/04) Kings Point was in second with a conference record of 4-1 (9-5 overall).

Skyline play continues for the remainder of the regular season for Old Westbury MBB. Next on the schedule is a home game against St Joseph’s College on Tuesday January 27 at 800 PM (please scroll to note which follows).

FACULTY/STAFF APPRECIATION NIGHT: To recognize the contributions of all College at Old Westbury Staff and Faculty members who’ve graciously supported Panther Athletics during the first semester, the women’s/men’s basketball doubleheader of Tuesday January 27 the has been named “Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night” at the Clark Athletic Center. St Joseph’s College LI will be the opponent for both the women’ and men’s teams.

The Lady Panthers tip off against the Golden Eagles tip off at 600 PM and the Panther men will follow with their game vs. SJC at 800 PM. Faculty and staff members, nominated by students, will be honored during halftime of the opening game. Why Not Be There?
