MARITIME DEFEATS MEN'S SWIMMING, 120-49

THROGGS NECK, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men’s swimming team took to the pool Tuesday evening to take on the Maritime Privateers. The Panthers suffered their second loss of the season as Maritime defeated Old Westbury, 120-49. With the loss the Panthers drop to 0-2 on the season. 

For the men in the 50 Free sophomore Gregory Mertens (Hicksville, NY), freshman Sean Challenger (Spring Valley, NY) and freshman Sam Liu (Staten Island, NY) claimed the top three spots touching the wall in 27.77, 46.34 and 59.62, respectively. Gregory Mertens had Old Westbury’s best finish of the evening in the 100 Breast, finishing first with a time of 1:31.17 followed by a second place showing by junior Stephen Paul (Staten Island, NY) in 1:37.19. Mertens was also Old Westbury’s top finisher in the 100 Free (1:06.16) with the second place finish, while Paul clocked in at 1:10.40 to register third place. 

Old Westbury captured a first-place finish in the 200 Freestyle relay. The swimmers who combined for first place with a time of 2:31.27 were senior John Rodgers (Hempstead, NY), junior Nicholous Perdomo (Hempstead, NY), freshman Regis Burton (Bronx, NY) and Sam Liu. 

PURCHASE PANTHERS NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury will take on the Purchase Panthers in a Skyline Conference battle on Friday, December 11 at the Old Westbury Aquatic Center.
