MEN'S SWIMMING EARNS DECISIVE WIN OVER PURCHASE, 1119-64

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's swimming team had a strong showing against the Purchase Panthers in Friday evening's meet at the Old Westbury Aquatic Center, as Old Westbury beat Purchase, 120-64. Panther swimmers combined to post 10 first-place finishes.
Junior Nicholous Perdomo (Hempstead, NY) led the way as he won three individual events, claiming the 200 IM (2:22.01), 100 Fly (1:48.21) and 100 IM (1:25.48).
In the relay event, freshman Sean Challenger (Spring Valley, NY), junior Stephen Paul (Staten Island, NY), sophomore Gregory Mertens (Hicksville, NY) and Nicholous Perdomo opened the meet by winning the 200-medley relay, finishing in a time of 2:20.55.
Junior Ronald Ott (Garden City Park, NY) went on to take first in the 500 Free with a time of 9:00.38. Ott also won the 200 Free in a time of 2:20.72 while Sean Challenger followed in second place at 2:24.09. Challenger captured first place in the 50 back (45.37) and 100 Back (1:49.40). Stephen Paul picked up his first victory of the meet as he won the 50 Breast, finishing in a time of 37.35. Gregory Mertens touched the wall in 26.66 to pick up first place in the 50 Free. Mertens would then go on to claim second in the 50 Fly (33.70).
Old Westbury will be back in the pool on Thursday, January 21st when they take on the York Cardinals in a double-dual meet with the Merchant Marine Academy.
