KINGS PARK, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's and women's cross country teams competed in the St. Joseph's College-L.I. Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Sunken Meadow State Park. In the final meet before the Skyline Conference Championship, the men placed 11 out of 12 squads and the women finished 10 out of 11 teams.
Senior Krystal Garner (Staten Island, NY) led the Panthers with a 17th place finish overall, crossing the line in 24:51. Old Westbury scored 246 points, 31 points behind ninth place Queensborough Community College and 46 points ahead of Monroe in 11th. The St. Joseph's College-L.I. women won the meet with a score of 49 points.
Junior Carissa Ellis (Brooklyn, NY) was the second best finished for the Panthers on Saturday, placing 54th in a time of 30:43. Sophomore Angela Dixon (Bronx, NY) and freshman Melissa Spleen (Hempstead, NY) and senior Avery Josey (Staten Island, NY) rounded out the top five for Old Westbury women. Dixon placed 56th overall in a time of 32:52, Spleen took 59th place (35:29) and Josey clocked-in at 36:37 for 60th place. Sophomore Ashley Cunningham ( ) ran a time of 36:38, good enough for a 61st place finish.
Senior Kenneth King (Westbury, NY) was the top finisher for the Panthers, pacing the Old Westbury men with a time 34:02. The Panthers recorded 304 points, finishing 12 points ahead of Monroe, the 12th place team, and 75 points behind of 10th place Mount Saint Mary. Farmingdale State men won the meet with a score of 38 points.
Junior Ronald Ott (Garden City Park, NY) was the second Panther and the 58th overall runner to cross (40:16) and freshman TaQuan Gray (Yonkers, NY) finished 62nd overall in 40:46. Junior Nicholous Perdomo (Hempstead, NY) and sophomore Josh Wooten (Jamaica, NY) also scored for the Panthers. Perdomo raced to a 45:25 time, placing 72nd while Wooten was the 75th runner to cross the line clocking in a 53:41.
The men's and women's cross country team will next run at the Skyline Conference Championship. The event will be held at Van Cortland State Park in the Bronx, New York on Sunday, November 1.
