2010 Skyline Conference Swimming Championship Release

(www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men’s swimming team finished in third place at the 2010 Skyline Conference Championship hosted by Purchase College on Saturday afternoon.

Old Westbury’s 400 freestyle relay of freshman Sean Challenger (Spring Valley, NY), sophomore Gregory Mertens (Hicksville, NY), junior Stephen Paul (Staten Island, NY) and freshman Fleeton Wells (Queens, NY) clocked a 4:43.42, giving the Panthers a second place finish and earning Second-Team All-Conference honors. Freshman Regis Burton (Antigua), Stephen Paul, Gregory Mertens and freshman Dustin Gratto (Saranac, NY) teamed up for the 200 medley relay, recording a time of 2:29.70 for a third place showing.

Paul and junior Ronald Ott (Garden City Park, NY) recorded the top individual finishes for the Green and Ivory. Paul represented Old Westbury in the 100 breast finishing with a 1:21.92, touching the wall fifth while Ott swam a 4:18.38 in the 200 backstroke, claiming fifth place. Other top finishes for Old Westbury included Gregory Mertens in the 50 freestyle (6th place at 27.57), Ronald Ott in the 200 freestyle (7th place in 3:09.92), Regis Burton in the 100 backstroke (8th place in 1:55.21) and freshman Hussam Bouayach (Astoria, NY) in the 100 freestyle (10th at 1:19.03).

Old Westbury wrapped up the meet in third place with 23 points. Maritime hoisted the 2010 Skyline Conference Swimming Championship with 199 points, followed by Mount Saint Mary in second-place with 102.
