www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury softball team opened the 2010 season on Saturday afternoon at Monarch Field in Fayetteville, North Carolina and dropped both games in a non-conference doubleheader with the Methodist Monarchs (2-4).
Old Westbury struggled to find their bats today, generating only four hits and two runs in the two games. Game one started with the Panthers stranding one runner on base while Methodist scored nine runs in the first inning off starter
Deborah Ciccarelli. Methodist then tacked on seven more runs in the second inning off Ciccarelli and
Alyssa Clancy. The Old Westbury offense came alive in the top of the third with a pair of runs off Methodist starter Alex Bass.
Samantha Siegler led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Jessica Spero singled to left to move Siegler over to third.
Nicole Petrucci then singled to left to score Sielger. Petrucci stole second as Spero scored from third to close out the scoring in game one.
The Panthers were held scoreless in game two as Lysuelle Slaughter and Emily Beck combined for the one hit shutout. Deborah Ciccarelli was pinned with her second loss of the day after allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits. Lauren Issac stroked Old Westbury’s lone hit of the game as singled up the middle in the second inning off Slaughter.
