OW BASEBALL DROPS DOUBLEHEADER TO KEYSTONE
Panthers fall in Game One, 6-2; Drop Game Two, 15-2

LA PLUME, PA (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team suffered a pair of non-conference defeats on Saturday afternoon to the Keystone Giants (26-7) at Christy Mathewson Field in La Plume, Pennsylvania. OW fell, 6-2 in the first game of the doubleheader and 15-2 in the finale. The Panthers fell to 22-21 on the season and will await word of an ECAC Metro Tournament bid. 

In the opener, Old Westbury’s Giovanni Jimenez plated a double down the left field line in the first inning to score Melvin Simmons for games first run. 

In the second frame, Ali Ferreiras singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error before scoring off a grounder by Euris Turbi. 

OW starter Dan Fordyce cruised past the opening ten Keystone batters, allowing just a hit. Fordyce ran into trouble in the fourth when Keystone turned two hits and an error into a tied game as Andy Vega singled to right center to score Brian Del Rosso and Yazy Arbello. 

Anthony Fernandez# singled to right field in the fifth inning and was the last Panther to reach base.
Keystone grabbed hold of a 6-2 lead in the fifth off three hits including a triple by Ray Jackson followed with a sac-fly by Esteban Meletiche, Groff’s two-run homer and Angel Fargas’ RBI single. 

Michael Duran, who last pitched against Oneonta State (April 8), made his second appearance of the season Saturday and retired three-of-four Giants to close out the sixth for Old Westbury. #Dan Fordyce took the OW loss and moved to 3-4 after pitching 4.1 innings with three strikeouts and four earned runs on four hits and a pair of free passes. Abel Guerrero recorded two outs to get the Panthers out of the fifth. Keystone starter Mike Hanley did not factor into the decision with three innings of work. Sean Brewer (5-1) struck out two and allowed one hit and a walk in three innings of relief to earn the win. 

Giovanni Jimenez’s double and singles by Anthony Fernandez, Albert Bevacqua and Ali Ferreiras accounted for Old Westbury’s four hits. Six different Giants registered in the hit column. 

The Giants notched three runs in the third and four more in the third to take an early hold of game two. Ryan Jarvis was dealt the loss, dropping him to 4-3 on the season. Keystone’s Sean Murphy went three innings of no-hit ball with three strikeouts and a walk on the other side of the ledger to improve to 5-2. 

Keystone quieted Old Westbury’s bats to just four hits. Josef Schaetzle registered Old Westbury in the hitting and scoring columns when he doubled in the fifth, followed by a wild pitch and a passed ball to score. Edwin Pena walked and back-to-back singled by Ali Ferreiras and Bladimir Toribio loaded the bases. Pinch hitter Kyle Schwarz# drew the walk with bases loaded to score Pena for Old Westbury’s second and final run of the contest. Keystone tacked on three runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to preserve the victory. 

Keystone outhit Old Westbury 17-4, including six home runs and two doubles in the extra base hit department.
