OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team earned a 2-1 season opening victory over the York Cardinals in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Panther Park. Old Westbury starts off the season at 1-0 while the Cardinals drop to 0-1.
After falling behind at the 11:59 mark off a blast by W.C. Jean Jacques that put York on the board first, Old Westbury regrouped and scored moments later.
Diego Mercado chipped a penalty kick past diving York keeper Pierreson Pierre-Louis to knot the game at 1-1 at 23:40 left on the first half clock. The two teams played even and went into the half tied at one.
Anthony Ippolito sparked the offense off a feed by
Thomas Manz for the eventual game winner 5:10 into the second half. Old Westbury controlled the pace over the final 39:50 to walk away with the season opening victory.

Darian Bryan was solide between the pipes, stopping four shots in 90 minutes of action while his counterpart, Pierreson Pierre-Louis had four saves and allowed two goals.
Both teams drew even in corner kicks (7-7) and saves while Old Westbury edged York in the shots, 16-12.
DREW RANGERS NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury will take on host Drew Rangers at the Drew Fall Festival on Saturday, September 4th in Madison, New Jersey. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
