PITTSFORD, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women’s soccer team picked up their first win of the season Sunday in the consolation game at the St. John Fisher Tournament. The final was 2-1 over the Bard Raptors, a Skyline Conference opponent of whom Old Westbury improved to 1-2-1 under the direction of Head Coach Craig Newman. The win improves OW to 1-2 on the season, keeping Bard winless at 0-2.
Bard’s only score of the day put the Raptors on the board first at the 10 minute mark. Maddy Huggins flicked a corner kick over to Erin Hannigan, who scored past OW keeper,
Chynna Pitlock for the early 1-0 advantage.
Freshmen
Samantha Clancy and
Kelsey Durkot each scored their first goal to help lead the Panthers offense.
Samantha Clancy tied the game off a blast from 25 yards out with 21:10 on the clock. Moments later,
Jennifer Kupfer found
Kelsey Durkot on the left side for the eventual game-winner at 30:16.
Chynna Pitlock had a solid day between the pipes for Old Westbury, recording eight saves. Amy Strawbridge tallied four saves on the day, and received her second loss of the season. Bard outshot the Panthers, 19-9, five of those 19 coming from Erin Hannigan, and also led in corner kicks, 8-5.
RAMAPO NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action to take on the Ramapo Roadrunners at the New Jersey City University Women’s Liberty Cup on Friday, September 10 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
