OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball head coach Bernard Tomlin and assistants Ed Krinsky and Roy Beekman will be sporting sneakers on the Clark Athletic Center sidelines Saturday (Jan. 28) during the game against Maritime, as college coaches across the country trade in dress shoes for the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits & Sneakers Awareness Weekend.

The NABC has encouraged coaches and their staffs to wear sneakers with their regular game suits at games held that weekend t o show support for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. Suits and Sneakers will unites coaches from across the country in the common effort to raise awareness for the fight to save lives from cancer

Tip off for the Old Westbury vs. Maritime game is at 2 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center in Old Westbury, New York.

At least one-third of cancer deaths could be avoided with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Just by wearing sneakers, Tomlin and staff will let people know about the fight against cancer and the importance that nutrition and physical activity plays in reducing people's risk of the disease. Together, we can save lives. By wearing sneakers with your game attire Jan. 28, we can help create awareness to the fans and the community to stay well and reduce their cancer risk by communicating this important message.

Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and communities to join the fight against cancer. Since the program's inception in 1993, high school and basketball coaches across the United States have joined the team to support the Society's efforts to save lives and create a world with more birthdays.
