@OW_Panthers Men’s Golf volunteers at 5K Run for the Bay

SAYVILLE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) For the second year in a row, SUNY Old Westbury men's golf volunteered at the 5K Run for the Bay presented by Blue Island Oysters on April 28 in Sayville, New York. USATF sanctioned the event with a USATF-Certified Course which took place throughout a picturesque south Sayville along the Great South Bay and other waterways of Sayville.

"The team did a great job representing SUNY Old Westbury," said Old Westbury head men's golf coach Donald Massmann. "Community engagement is vital to our student-athlete's success."

All profits of the event benefited two local organizations; Operation Blue Earth and Save the Great South Bay. Operation Blue Earth is a grassroots movement founded by the Blue Island Oyster farmers of the Great South Bay, whose mission is to raise awareness of the harmful effects of chemical lawn fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides on our bay. Save the Great South Bay is dedicated to the revitalization of the bay through sustainable initiatives and community outreach.

Massmann, along with Old Westbury men's golf student-athletes Anthony DiGirolamo and Dyllon O'Shea helped direct runners at various points to ensure safety throughout the course.
