SAT PREP BASKETBALL ACADEMY ANNOUNCES TWO WEEK SESSION

MAY 30, 2008

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-SUNY College at Old Westbury will host a cutting-edge program this summer designed to prepare high school student-athletes for the SAT examination in a fun and creative environment.  SAT Prep Basketball Academy will provide a two week session for high school girls and boys in which they will spend part of the day in a classroom learning about the exam and important test-taking techniques.  Participants will learn strategies unique to the exam along with special skills for handling every type of question that appears on the exam: critical reading, math, and writing.  Participants will spend the rest of the day training for high-level competitive basketball by developing and improving their basketball skills: shooting, offensive footwork, and dribbling. The goal of the Academy is to help students reach both their academic and athletic potentials.

Kaplan "The Industry leader with over 70 years of experience" will run the academic portion of the SAT Prep Basketball Academy.  At Kaplan, our mission is to help individuals achieve their educational and career goals. We build futures one success story at a time.

Kaplan's SAT program is designed with the student in mind. We've combined comprehensive content review-balanced with practice SATs-to ensure students concentrate on the highest yield areas. We then reinforce those skills with the most realistic practice available.  The new SAT poses new challenges for your students-an essay and higher level math. Kaplan is there to help your students meet their goals, with new innovations that stem from our long history with the SAT.

Kaplan has analyzed all previously released tests in great depth to assign point values to each tested skill. For example, students see that pronoun questions are worth 56 points in the writing section and diction questions are worth only 28 points. Kaplan has organized their lessons so that students study exactly what they need to know and spend their time on the areas that get the most points.

Mr. Bernard Tomlin, currently the Head Men's Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at SUNY College at Old Westbury, will run the athletic portion of the SAT Prep Basketball Academy.  Coach Tomlin has over 25 years of coaching and playing experience at the professional and collegiate levels.  His vision for SAT Prep Basketball Academy is to provide an environment in which athletes can prepare themselves for the quintessential SAT exam and improve their basketball skills during the off-season.

SAT Prep Basketball Academy will operate Monday through Friday for two weeks, starting on Monday, July 28 and concluding on Friday, August 8.
