WOMEN'S SOCCER LOCKS UP PLAYOFF SPOT DESPITE 2-0 SETBACK TO ALBERTUS MAGNUS

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team advanced to the Skyline Conference playoffs after falling 2-0 to non-conference opponent, Albertus Magnus College on Thursday evening at Panther Park. Bard College defeated Purchase College, 5-0 to help send Old Westbury to the postseason. Old Westbury sits at 4-9 on the season while Albertus Magnus moves to 5-9-3 overall.
Junior goalkeeper Sherrida Maxwell made 10 saves for the Panthers but allowed two goals midway through the first half that ensured Albertus Magnus the victory. Sam Gigliotti broke open a scoreless game at the 23:20 mark on a breakaway score on a feed from Sarah Boudreau to lift the Falcons, 1-0. Brittney Geremia then doubled the lead with a goal at the 24:46 mark when she netted a cross by Sam Gigliotti past the outstretched arms of Maxwell.
Down two goals, the Panthers pushed forward but were unable to find the score sheet, as Albertus Magnus edged Old Westbury 15-3 in shots and tied 7-7 in corner kicks. Maxwell set a career-high with 10 saves after she recorded nine stops against The Sage Colleges on October 4th. Christina Oddo and Michelle Battista combined for the shutout for the Falcons.
