Purchase, NY—The Panthers opened with a 2-1 win in the first game against Mount Saint Vincent but fell short in the second game (4-3) taking the loss.
The Panthers displayed some outstanding pitching during the first game. Senior right hander Richard Ruiz (Bronx, NY) pitched 8 innings allowing only 4 hits and one earned run, while registering 9 strike outs. Freshman reliever George Pagan (Farmingdale, NY) entered the game for the last 2 innings to seize the win.
Sophomore Darly Alcantara (Bronx, NY) led the Panthers going 2 for 4 with 1 run scored. Freshman Will Gonzolez (Mastic Beach, NY) pinched hit in the 10th inning for the finish. Gonzolez brought home teammate Joe Nuzzolese (Wantagh, NY) to capture the win.
Mount Saint Vincent’s was led by left fielder, Park, who went 2 for 4 with 1 run score.
Senior Felix Tatis (Brooklyn, NY) led the Panthers in the second game going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a RBI. Darly Alcantara went 2 for 3 with one run scored and an RBI. Mount Saint Vincent’s pitcher, Strub, held the Panthers offense to 6 hits and 3 earned runs to take the win.
