Panthers Fall in Season Opener
Feb 26, 2005

Greensboro, NC?The Panthers stepped onto a field this past Friday for the first time this season. They traveled to Greensboro College where they were defeated 1-15. Old Westbury scored their first and only run at the top of the sixth inning. Freshman Jamie Quinn (Massapequa, NY) sent the ball deep to right field breaking Greensboro?s pitcher Andrew Keever?s no-hitter. Darly Alcantara (Bronx, NY) was next up to bat. He hit a double to center field allowing Quinn to cross the plate and score for the Panthers.

The Panthers took on Greensboro again on Saturday to once more be defeated (2-12). Old Westbury scored their two runs in the seventh inning but it was too late to turn things around. The inning started with Matt Hennan (Farmingdale, NY) taking a walk, then stealing second. Teammate Jamie Quinn stepped up to bat and hit a single advancing Hennan to third base. Greensboro?s pitcher Josh Maras walked Darly Alcantara giving the Panthers a bases loaded situation. Rob Knips (Commack, NY) was the next Panther up to the plate. He makes a hit allowing both Hennan and Quinn to score.

These games improve Greensboro to an 8-6 overall record and leave the Panthers at 0-2.
