Panthers are Defeated by Hampden-Sydney

Hampden-Sydney, VA—Old Westbury traveled to Virginia to play a double header against Hampden-Sydney College on Sunday. The Panthers got swept losing the 1st game 2-5, and the second game 3-13. The games improved the Hampden-Sydney Tigers to an overall record of 8-2, leaving the Panthers at 0-4 to start the season.

In the first game Argelis Rosario (Corona, NY) pitched the majority of the game allowing only 7 hits. The Panthers shone in the fourth inning when both runs were scored. There were two outs and Simieon Knight was on first after being walked. Jamie Quinn (Massapequa, NY) steps up to the plate and hits a single which advances Knight to third. Quinn then steals second. Matt Hennan (Farmingdale, NY) is up to bat and he hits a single and proceeds to second on a throw allowing Knight and Quinn to score.

In the second game of the double header, the Panthers came out strong scoring their 3 runs in the first inning. Hampden-Sydney’s pitcher Larry Green walked Felix Tatis (Brooklyn, NY) and then hit John Decrescenzo (Brooklyn, NY) with a pitch giving the Panthers men on both first and second base. Joe Nuzzolese (Wantagh, NY) then came to the plate and hit a single allowing Tatis to score and advancing Decrescenzo to second. The big Panther play came from freshman Jamie Quinn when he hit a triple bringing both of his teammates home to start the game with a 3-0 lead over Hampden-Sydney. The Tigers only scored one run in the first inning but rallied in the second scoring five more runs on the Panthers.

The Panthers head to Florida for spring training and their next round of games. They will first see Ursinus College on March 10th. The Panthers will host their first home game of the season on March 17th against Farmingdale State at 3:30pm.
