Old Westbury Baseball Picks Up First Wins, Sweeps Doubleheader Against Lincoln
Mar 12, 2006

Looking for its first win of the season, the Old Westbury baseball team spoiled Lincoln University's home opener, topping the Lions in two games, 11-5 and 15-2 this afternoon.

The Panthers improve to 2-3 overall, while Lincoln drops to 3-4 overall.

Josh Graber's double in the first inning sparked the Lion's offense, which generated two runs off of four hits for the early lead in game one.

The Panthers responded and gained control of the game, scoring nine runs in four innings for a 9-2 lead. Old Westbury's offense supplied three triples and a home run in the remaining six innings to put game one out of reach.

With the score tied at two, Ramon Geronimo blasted a triple that allowed Rob Knips and Jesse Germinario to cross the plate. Alan Anderson added an RBI single, scoring Geronimo to close out the third.

The Lions closed the gap to a 9-5 Old Westbury lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Germinario put an end to the threat with a two-run homer to left center in the top of the seventh which made the final score 11-5.

Zach Flinn earned his first win of the season on the mound for the Panthers.

Behind five doubles and a total of 19 hits, the Panthers dominated game two as well. On the mound for the win was Peter Reyes, who pitched a one-hit complete game and struck out five for Old Westbury.

Ahead by five entering the sixth, Old Westbury poured in eight runs that frame to seal the non-conference sweep.

Greg Jones, Darly Alcantra, and Geronimo had three hits each for the Panthers in the second game. Alcantra recorded a pair of doubles and three RBI.

The Panthers return to NY and will host Cazenovia on Friday, March 17 at SUNY Farmingdale. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
