Late Rally Lifts Cazenovia to 3-2 Win Over Old Westbury
Mar 17, 2006

After trailing for most of the game, Cazenovia used a seventh inning run to tally three runs and edge out the Old Westbury Panthers 3-2 in a non-conference baseball game held at Farmingdale State. With the loss, Old Westbury falls to 2-4 on the season.

Old Westbury threatened early as Alan Anderson kicked off the bottom of the second inning with a triple to right field, but Erick Tylutki, who picked up the win on the mound for Cazenovia, retired the next three batters to end the inning.

The Panthers were at in again in the third, this time with greater results. After Darly Alcantara reached on a single and stole second, Jamie Quinn fired a double to right field, driving in Alcantara for the 1-0 lead. Old Westbury added another run in the fourth inning as William Rada's sacrifice fly scored Anderson, who had reached base with a single to open the inning.

The two teams went scoreless over the next three quick innings, before Cazenovia came to bat in the top of the seventh. With one out and two runners on, Matt Wood blasted a triple to centerfield, scoring both runners and tying the game. Scott Boyce managed a sacrifice fly on the next play, scoring Wood for the would-be game-winning run. After walking the next batter, Old Westbury starter Nelson Hernandez was replaced by George Pagan, who retired the final batter of the inning on the next play.

Hernandez, who falls to 0-2 on the season, allowed three hits and struck out five in 6.2 innings. Tylutki gave up five hits and struck out nine in eight innings. Aaron Wismar picked up the save for Cazenovia.

Old Westbury returns to action tomorrow against SUNY IT. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm and will take place at Farmingdale State.
