The Old Westbury Panthers dropped a 12-5 decision to Wilkes University today at Artillery Park . After giving up a run to Wilkes in the first inning the Panthers took a two-run lead in the fourth. William Rada singled and Peter Petrides drew a walk to set the stage for Darly Alcantara's three-run homer that gave Old Westbury the lead.
Old Westbury held the 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, when following two Panther errors the Colonels exploded for six runs. After scoring one run, Casey Kulago hit a triple with bases loaded giving Wilkes a 5-3 lead. Kyle Stover would plate Kulago with a sacrifice fly that extended the Colonels lead to 6-3. With two outs Chris Mayerski singled and Woznisky drew a walk to keep the inning alive. Migliorino followed with a single to score Mayerski and make it a 7-3 game.
Old Westbury cut the deficit to 7-5 with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Ramon Geronimo had a double that scored a run and Felipe Martinez added a run-scoring single for the Panthers. Wilkes answered right back with four more runs in their half of the inning.
The Colonels would add one more run in the eighth when Follweiler connected for an inside-the-park homerun that made it 12-5.
George Pagan, the third of seven Old Westbury pitchers, suffered the loss to fall to 0-2. Alcantara had a single and a homerun to lead the Panthers, who finished with eight hits in the contest. Geronimo had two doubles and Martinez chipped in with a pair of singles for Old Westbury.
Old Westbury will face Stevens on Sunday for a Skyline doubleheader beginning at Noon.
