Panthers Drop Two at Centenary
Apr 29, 2006

The Old Westbury Panthers baseball team fell to 11-18 overall and 7-9 in the league after dropping both games of today's doubleheader at Centenary. The Cyclones took game one 9-4 and scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh to edge out the Panthers 2-1 in game two.

In game one, Centenary used an explosive fourth inning to drive in six runs and put the game away. With the score tied at one entering the inning, Cassidy started the rally off by reaching base on an error. The Cyclones then went on to tally six hits, including a two RBI single by Ciamarra and a two RBI double by Sigafoos.

The Panthers got two runs back in the top of the fifth and one in the sixth, but could not close the gap. Darly Alcantara tripled with the second at-bat of the fifth inning and Jamie Quinn drove him in with a single on the next play. Ramon Geronimo would later drive Quinn in with a single. Alcantara's sacrifice fly in the sixth scored Rob Knips for the Panthers' final run of the game.

Centenary added one run each in the seventh and eighth innings. Rossi allowed seven hits in 5.0 innings in the win for the Cyclones. Zach Flinn took the loss for the Panthers allowing nine hits and four earned runs in 3.2 innings work. Greg Jones went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.

The Cyclones once again pulled ahead in game two, this time taking an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first.

Alcantara and Quinn teamed up once again, this time tying the game in the fourth. Quinn reached base on a fielder's choice and, after making his way around to third, was driven home with an RBI single by Alcantara.

With the game still tied heading into the Cyclone's final at-bat, Centenary managed a run without a hit, or an Old Westbury error, in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, the Panthers walked the bases loaded and Perrine's fielder's choice to shortstop allowed the winning run to cross the plate.

George Pagan took the loss for Old Westbury. Alcantara finished game two 2-for-3 with an RBI and was 3-6 for the day.

Old Westbury will face Steven's tomorrow at Noon.
