Old Westbury junior Peter Reyes has been selected as the Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Week for the final week of the 2006 season. The announcement came from the Skyline office and is the first weekly honor for any Old Westbury player this season.
Reyes, a right-handed hurler, tossed two complete games, picking up an 8-0 shutout against Mt. St. Vincent and 5-4 win over regional power Stevens. In front of over 250 fans at the Panthers' Grand Opening event, celebrating the opening of the newly renovated baseball and softball fields, Reyes put on a show, striking out six and allowing just three hits to lead Old Westbury to the win.
Five days later, he went 7.0 innings, leading his squad to a win in their final conference game of the season. For the week, Reyes allowed just four earned runs and struck out seven.
The Panthers will return to action on Wednesday when they host Fairleigh Dickinson at 3:30 and John Jay at 7:00 pm.
