Old Westbury Celebrates Grand Opening of Jackie Robinson Sports Complex
Apr 25, 2006

Over 200 fans braved the weather to celebrate Old Westbury's Grand Opening of the Jackie Robinson Sports Complex, which includes the only college baseball field in Nassau County equipped with lights. College President Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III officiated at the pre-game ceremony and threw out the ceremonial pitch to officially open the complex.

The Old Westbury softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader with John Jay to open the day's events and the Panther baseball team split its doubleheader with Mt. St. Vincent.

Senior pitcher Lindsay Amato picked up both wins for the Panthers, striking out 11 and allowing just two earned runs in 12.0 innings work.

Old Westbury plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the third. The Panthers opened the inning up with back-to-back singles by Nihal Boz and Jen Ragone, and Ragone would later go on to score the game-winner on a sacrifice fly by Kelly Fegan.

Old Westbury broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on the Bloodhounds' errors to score eight runs off of just one hit, a two-RBI single by Shanelle Brown, in the inning. The game was called after Weickum crossed the plate for the Panthers' ninth run.

Peter Reyes threw a complete game shutout en route to an 8-0 win for the Panthers in game one. The senior pitcher struck out six and allowed just three hits.

Greg Jones scored the game-winner in the third inning, advancing home on Victor Carrion's at-bat. Felipe Martinez' single in the sixth inning scored Carrion and Darly Alcantara tripled in the seventh, scoring Jones to give Old Westbury a 3-0 edge.

After four quick scoreless innings in game two, the Dolphins plated the game-winning run in the top of the fifth. Nick Triolo walked to open the inning, and Mt. St. Vincent went on to draw three more walks with two outs, allowing Triolo to come around and score.
