PANTHERS FALL TO POINT PARK, 7-3

COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA-Old Westbury committed 5 errors in their opening game at the Cocoa Beach Expo, losing to Point Park, 7-3.  Peter Reyes went 5 solid innings, allowing only 2 hits and struck out 4 batters.  Point Park put up three runs in the second inning, 2 runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh and eighth to top Old Westbury.  The Panthers scored once in the third inning and two in the fifth, but 5 costly errors sealed the deal for Point Park.

Point Park jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second against Peter Reyes.  Dan Pomposelli reached first base on a Darly Alcantara error; followed by a walk and a Jason Mesko single that bought in Pomposelli.  Peter Reyes threw two wild pitches that advanced runners to second and third when Jeremy DeLuca stepped to the plate and hit a two run single to put Point Park up 3-0 in the second.  The Panthers responded in the bottom of the third when Alan Anderson reached first on a single and stole second.  Two wild pitches by Brandon Keck allowed Anderson to score and Jesse Germinario advanced to third.  Alan Anderson led off another big inning for the Panthers when he drew a walk and stole second and later scored on a John Taglianti single.  Jesse Germinario singled, followed by a wild pitch that advanced the runners to second and third.  Darly Alcantara hit a sacrifice fly to score Taglienti to tie the game at 3-3.  William Rada hit into an inning ending double play.  Christian Colon was called in from the bullpen and gave up two runs in the sixth inning.  Colon allowed only 1 hit but 2 stolen bases, a wild pitch and a passed ball put Point Park up 5-3.  Point Park tacked on a run in the seventh and eighth inning off of Colon and 2 more costly Panther errors left Old Westbury trailing 7-3.  Willie Silverio pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Panthers and recorded 2 strikeouts.  

Old Westbury's 5 errors proved to be the difference as both clubs tallied 6 hits apiece.  Old Westbury's Peter Reyes went 5 innings, allowed 2 hits and no earned runs while striking out 4 batters.  Christian Colon pitched 3 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 earned runs.  Willie SIlverio pitched a scoreless ninth and stuck out 2 batters.
