FATHER AND SON BASEBALL CAMP SET TO LAUNCH AUGUST 1-3

JUNE 20, 2008

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-SUNY College at Old Westbury will introduce a Father and Son Weekend Baseball Camp which is a great learning and bonding experience for both father and son.  Father and Son will work together on drills and techniques of the game.  Dads will attend a special session where they will learn how to teach and assist in their son's development.  The Father and Son Weekend Baseball Camp will begin on Friday August 1st and concludes on Sunday August 3rd.

Mr. John Lonardo, currently the Head Baseball Coach and Athletic Director at SUNY College at Old Westbury, will run the Father and Son Weekend Baseball Camp.  Coach Lonardo is entering his 13th season at Old Westbury with a record of  244-186-3, good enough to get him on the top 50 in the country for active winning percentage by a coach, building the program into a perennial regional threat. His ability to recruit solid student-athletes paid off, as he developed numerous All-League players, New York State Regional All-Stars, ECAC All-Stars and in 2001, Old Westbury had their first two student-athlete's in school history sign a professional baseball contract under the tutelage of Lonardo.  Throughout his impressive coaching career, Lonardo received several awards for his accomplishments over the years. He was a three-time recipient of the Louisville Slugger Coach of the Year award and was named the Knickerbocker Conference Coach of the Year numerous times, most recently in 2002. During his tenure, the Panthers made three NCAA Regional appearances (1997, 2000, 2001) and six ECAC Championship appearances (1994, 1995, 1998, 1999,2002). Since 2002, Lonardo has served as the Baseball Chairperson for the Skyline Conference and is an active member of the American Baseball Coaches Association. In September 2006, he was appointed to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Committee, where he serves as chairman for the New York region.
