Game 2 Boxscore

FALMOUTH, VA.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Baseball team lost a pair of non-conference games on the road at Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon.  The Panthers once again put up a strong showing but could not pull out wins, falling 8-0 and 9-3 in a doubleheader against Frostburg State on Saturday.  Old Westbury falls to 0-6 overall while Frostburg State improves to 2-4 on the season.

In game one, the Frostburg State bats came alive to score eight runs in the final three innings.  Andrew Sacks drove in three runs to lead the attack while Brett Mitchell went 3-for-4 including two triples.  Fernando Lopez and Kevin Reynolds each singled to collect the lone Panther hits.  The Old Westbury offensive attack was put on halt, due in part to a complete game, two hit shutout by pitcher Freddy Foshay.  Robert Whitenack (0-1) allowed five earned runs and was credited with the loss despite throwing a one hit shutout over his first three innings.  Jake Tauber threw 1/3 of an inning of work , allowing two hits and two earned runs followed by George Pagan, who struck out two over 2/3 of an inning.  Jorge Hiraldo closed out the game with one inning of work, while allowing three hits and one run.  Frostburg State was led by Joe Clark and Allen Peake.  Clark went 1-for-3 with a homerun, three runs batted in and two runs scored as Allen Peake hit 2-for-2 with a homerun, three runs batted in and two runs scored.

Old Westbury drew first blood in game two, when Ryan Blanco stole second base and came around to score off a Fernando Lopez single to right field in the first inning.  The Panthers came back in the third inning when Joe Mazzarese started off with a single to center and then proceeded to steal second.  Ryan Blanco then singled and advanced to second on a throwing error that moved Mazzarese onto third.  Kevin Reynolds then delivered a sacrifice fly to left field that drove in Mazzarese from third.   Old Westbury posted their third and final run in the fifth inning when Ben Farmer singled to start off the fourth.  Ryan Blanco then reached on a fielder's choice and stole second, followed by a wild pitch and a passed ball and scored to tie the game at three apiece.  Over the final three innings, six runs on five hits lifted Frostburg State to a 9-3 win over the Panthers.  David Collado was a no-decision after pitching 3 1/3 innings with three runs and four walks on one hit along three strikeouts.  Thomas Butler (0-2) was credited with the loss as he allowed three runs on three hits.  Dan Fordyce then surrendered three runs and two hits over 1 1/3 innings of work in addition to three strikeouts.  Despite scoring three runs, Old Westbury outslugged Frostburg State in the hit column, 8-7, including a multi-hit game by Fernando Lopez (2-for-3, 1 RBI).

Old Westbury (0-6) returns to action on Saturday, March 8th at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex for the 2008 home opener against non-conference opponent, Eastern Connecticut State.  First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.  For more information about the Old Westbury Panthers, or to follow your favorite Panther sports and events, log onto http://www.oldwestburypanthers.com/.
