PANTHER BASEBALL SPLITS WITH DOLPHINS

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Baseball team split a double-header with Skyline Conference opponent, Mount Saint Vincent College on Saturday evening at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The Green and Ivory dominated the Dolphins in game one, 11-1 but were edged in the second game, 7-3. Old Westbury moves to 6-17 overall and 4-2 in league play while Mount Saint Vincent climbs to 7-11 on the season and 2-4 in Skyline Conference action.
Panthers at the plate (Game 1): Emmanuel Mateo and John Taglienti collected three hits apiece to lead the Panthers to victory. Mateo (3-for-4) hit for three singles and drove in two Panthers while Taglienti (3-for-4) scored two runs and doubled in Kevin Reynolds (1-for-3) in the fourth inning. Reynolds clubbed a triple and scored two runs as Thomas Butler (2-for-4, R) drove in three runs. Ben Farmer (2-for-2, R) and Joe Mazzarese (2-for-4, 2 R's, RBI) hit a pair of singles and Ryan Blanco (1-for-4) singled and drove in two Panthers.
Dolphins at the plate (Game 1): Joe Blackford singled and scored the lone run for the Dolphins and hit 1-for-3 at the plate. James Labartino hit a double in the sixth inning to break a no-hitter and went 1-for-2 at the plate. Vinny Todino (0-for-5) was sat down four times on strikes.
Panthers on the mound (Game 1): Robert Whitenack and Frank Russo Jr. combined for a two hit performance on the mound. Whitenack tossed five and two thirds innings of no-hit baseball. Whitenack finished with seven innings of work with 11 strikeouts and allowed one run (0 earned) on one hit. Russo pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game and surrendered one single and struck out one
Dolphins on the mound (Game 1): Anthony Palandro lasted three innings and was charged with nine runs (5 earned) on eight hits. Palandro struck out two and walked one before Scott Taylor came in to pitch four innings of relief. Taylor relinquished one earned run on six hits and walked three Panthers. John Olsen closed out the ninth inning and gave up one earned run on two hits.
Game notes (Game 1): Old Westbury out-hit Mount Saint Vincent, 16-2 including a 3-1 advantage in the extra base hit department. On the base path, Old Westbury swept five bases (Mazzarese 2; Butler 2; Collado) and stranded seven Panthers while Mount Saint Vincent left nine Dolphins on base. In the field, Old Westbury had one error and Mount Saint Vincent let up two. On the mound, Old Westbury had 12 strikeouts and two walks as Mount Saint Vincent registered two strikeouts and four walks.
Panthers at the plate (Game 2): David Collado (2-for-3, SB) was one of three Panthers to register multiple hits in leading the Panthers. Collado tripled to right center and then scored as Thomas Butler lifted a sacrifice fly to center field in the fourth inning. Collado then singled home Jonathon Espinal in the seventh inning. Kevin Reynolds (2-for-3) and Emanuel Mateo (2-for-3) each singled and doubled, while Reynolds scored one run in the seventh inning.
Dolphins at the plate (Game 2): Josh Cuozzo (3-for-3) hit three singles and scored one run to lead Mount Saint Vincent to victory. Eddie Park (1-for-3) and Joe Blackford (1-for-4) each scored two runs, while Park doubled and swept one base. Zach Monroe, who hit 1-for-4 and swept four bases, and Al Schor (0-for-3), each drove in one run and scored one.
Panthers on the mound (Game 2): David Collado (0-4) struck out 10 Dolphins in five and one third innings of work on the mound. Collado relinquished seven runs (2 earned) on nine hits and handed out one free pass. In relief action, the freshman duo of Jorge Hiraldo and Joshua Burgos retired the final two batters in the top of the sixth and a scoreless seventh, respectively.
Dolphins on the mound (Game 2): Mike Trainor tossed six innings and was charged for three runs on six hits along with six strikeouts. Joe Blackford closed out the seventh inning, allowing one hit and one strikeout.
Game notes (Game 2): Old Westbury was out-hit, 9-7, despite a 3-1 advantage in the extra base hit department. On the base path, Old Westbury swept one base and stranded six Panthers while Mount Saint Vincent stole eight bases and left eight Dolphins on base. In the field, Old Westbury committed five errors and Mount Saint Vincent had two. On the mound, Old Westbury rang up 11 Dolphins on strikes and gave out three walks while Mount Saint Vincent struck out seven and walked two.
Old Westbury returns to the diamond on Sunday, April 6th on the road at Skyline Conference opponent, Purchase College. First pitch of the double-header is slated for 12 noon.
