PANTHER BASEBALL SPLITS WITH MOUNT SAINT MARY; WHITENACK
THROWS COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Baseball team split with Skyline Conference opponent, Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. Old Westbury cruised through game one, 2-0 and were then topped by Mount Saint Mary College in game two, 9-0. Old Westbury stands at 9-20 overall and 7-3 in league play while Mount Saint Mary College moves to 7-15 on the season and 5-3 in Skyline Conference action.
Panthers at the plate (Game 1): Kevin Reynolds (2-for-2) was one of three Panthers to register multiple hits in a game one victory over Mount Saint Mary College. Reynolds scored Old Westbury's first run when Joe Mazzarese (0-for-3) lifted a sacrifice fly to left field in the third inning. John Taglienti (2-for-2) and Josh Flett (2-for-4) each hit a pair of singles while Matthew Gelormino (1-for-1) singled and stolen a base en route to scoring in the seventh inning. Ryan Blanco swept two bases.
Blue Knights at the plate (Game 1): B.J. Masopust (1-for-3), Chris Schacca (1-for-3) and William Casey (1-for-2) each singled to lead Mount Saint Mary. Masopust stole second base after singling in the fifth inning.
Panthers on the mound (Game 1): Robert Whitenack tossed a complete game shutout to improve his record to 3-3 on the season. Whitenack struck out eight batters and handed out one free pass along with three hits.
Blue Knights on the mound (Game 1): Frank Snyder was credited with the loss after throwing eight innings on the mound. Snyder allowed two earned runs on eight hits while striking out three Panthers and walking two.
Game notes (Game 1): Old Westbury out-hit Mount Saint Mary, 8-3. On the base path, Old Westbury stole three bases and stranded five batters while Mount Saint Mary stole one base and left five on base. On the defensive front, Old Westbury turned two double plays and committed three errors as Mount Saint Mary had two errors. On the mound, Old Westbury struck out eight batters and walked one while Mount Saint Mary had three strikeouts and two walks.
Panthers at the plate (Game 2): Kevin Reynolds clubbed a pair of singles to lead the Panthers at the plate. Reynolds stole one base while Thomas Butler (1-for-3) was thrown out at second base after singling in the fourth inning. Josh Flett (1-for-3) and Joe Mazzarese (1-for-3) each singled to reach base.
Blue Knights at the plate (Game 2): Chris Schacca (2-for-4), Matthew Germann (2-for-3, R) and Greg Diamond (2-for-3) each collected a pair of hits to lead Mount Saint Mary past Old Westbury. Schacca tripled and scored two runs while Germann and Diamond hit a couple of singles to drive in two and one runs, respectively. Anthony Forgione (1-for-3) drove in three runs as he tripled and scored one run along with Brian Visconti (1-for-3) scoring two runs
Panthers on the mound (Game 2): David Collado (0-5) pitched four and one third innings of four hit baseball in which he allowed five earned runs. Collado strck out five and walked four before Frank Russo Jr. came in for two thirds of an inning of relief. Russo allowed one hit and one earned run along with one walk. Joshua Burgos tossed one third of an inning and was charged with one earned run on three hits. Jake Tauber closed out the final one and two third innings and surrendered one earned run (2 runs) on one hit while striking out one and walking two.
Blue Knights on the mound (Game 2): Michael Redmond was victorious after throwing seven innings for the complete game shutout. Redmond allowed five hits and one walk as he sat down four Panthers on strikes.
Game notes (Game 2): Old Westbury was out-hit, 9-5 including 3-0 in the extra base hit department. On the base path, Old Westbury stole one of two bases and left five Panthers stranded while Mount Saint Mary left nine on base. In the field, Old Westbury turned two double plays and committed one error. On the mound, Old Westbury struck out six batters and walked seven as Mount Saint Mary struck out four and walked one.
Old Westbury returns to the diamond on Sunday, April 13th at Skyline Conference opponent, Maritime College. First pitch of the double-header is slated for 12 noon.
