PANTHER BASEBALL FALLS AT ONEONTA STATE

ONEONTA, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Baseball team lost a 7-0 game to non-conference opponent, Oneonta State on Wednesday afternoon at Red Dragon Field. Old Westbury falls to 8-19 overall while Oneonta State improves to 9-9 on the season.
Panthers at the plate: Brian Magas (1-for-1) clubbed a double to right field in the fifth inning to lead the Panthers at the plate. Magas stole one base after walking while Joe Mazzarese (1-for-4) and Matthew Gelormino (1-for-3) each singled.
Red Dragons at the plate: Ryan Myers (2-for-4) was one of three Red Dragons to collect multiple hits en route to victory. Myers drove in three Red Dragons on a single and a double while Dan Randall (2-for-2) scored two runs. Scott Dubben stroked one double and one triple to drive in two runs and score one as Brian Holmes (0-for-3) scored two runs.
Panthers on the mound: Jake Tauber (0-3) was credited with the loss after pitched four innings of four hit baseball. Tauber was charged with two earned runs after walking five Red Dragons and striking out one. Robert Whitenack pitched a perfect fifth inning before Frank Russo, Jr. game up one earned run on one hit and struck out one in one inning of work. David Collado pitched a scoreless inning in the seventh inning, where he struck out one batter. Thomas Butler surrendered four earned runs on two hits in the eighth inning. Butler faced nine batters and struck out one and walked three.
Red Dragons on the mound: Ryan Cole (3-1) pitched eight scoreless innings of three hit baseball to earn the victory. Coles struck out five Panthers and walked one before Patrick Conners pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the Green and Ivory.
Game notes: Old Westbury collected three hits while Oneonta State had eight, including a 3-1 advantage in the extra base hit department. On the base path, Old Westbury stole one out of two bases and stranded three Panthers and Oneonta State left nine Red Dragons on base. In the field, Old Westbury turned the lone double-play of the game as both team were flawless in the field. On the mound, Old Westbury struck out four Red Dragons and walked eight while Oneonta State struck out five Panthers and walked one.
Old Westbury returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 12th to host Skyline Conference opponent, Mount Saint Mary for a double-header. First pitch is slated for 12 noon.
