PANTHER BASEBALL DOWNED AT #9 RPI

TROY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Baseball team lost a 15-1 decision to ninth ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Robison Field in Troy, New York. Old Westbury falls to 8-18 overall while Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute improves to 17-1 on the season.
Panthers at the plate: Joe Mazzarese (1-for-4) scored the lone run for the Panthers in the first inning to lead the Panthers. Mazzarese bunted his way onto base and then proceeded to steal second and third before David Collado (0-for-3) drove him in for the score. Mathew Gelormino (1-for-3) and Thomas Butler (1-for-3, 2 K's) each singled.
Red Hawks at the plate: Camden Mamigonian (3-for-4) was one of five Red Hawks to register multiple hits. Mamigonian scored three runs after reaching on two doubles and driving in two runs. Matt Muscatiello (2-for-3, 2B, 3 RBI, R) singled in Noah Poissant (2-for-3, 2 R) and Ken Carroll (2-for-3, 2R, RBI) in the fourth inning. Dan Stroud (2-for-4, R) drove in two runs and Mike Giacoia (1-for-2) doubled in three runs.
Panthers on the mound: Jorge Hiraldo (1-2) threw five innings and surrendered 11 runs (9 Earned) on 12 hits. Hiraldo struck out two and handed out three free passes as Joshua Burgos came in for relief work. Burgos tossed one and one third innings and gave up four earned, including four earned runs on one hit and one walk. Eddie Morales came into relieve Burgos and retired the final two out of the seventh inning. Thomas Butler pitched a perfect eighth inning and sent one Red Hawk back to the dugout on strikes.
Red Hawks on the mound: Joel Zungol hurled six innings on the mound and allowed one earned run on two hits. Zungol struck out four Panthers and walked one before Tim Klein (1 H, 1 BB, 1 K) pitched three innings of relief work
Game notes: Old Westbury was out-hit, 14-3 including 5-0 in the extra base hit department. On the base path, Old Westbury swept two of three bases and stranded one while the Red Hawks stole two bases and left nine on base. The Panthers committed three errors (Reynolds, Butler, Hiraldo) while RPI had no errors and turned two double plays. On the mound, Old Westbury struck out three Red Hawks and walked four as RPI had five strikeouts and walked two.
The Green and Ivory return to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon at non-conference opponent, Oneonta State.
