PANTHER BASEBALL FALLS HARD WITH A 22-5 LOSS TO WASHINGTON COLLEGE

COCOA , FL.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury lost a 22-5 decision to Washington College on Friday afternoon at the Cocoa Expo Sports Center in Cocoa , Florida.  Old Westbury drops to 1-9 overall while Washington College notched their 1000th career victory and moves to 3-4 on the season. 

Old Westbury drew first blood as Joe Mazzarese led off the first with a single and then stole second.  Ryan Blanco walked and stole second as Mazzarese took third to pull off the double-steal.  Mazzarese would then score from third as he reacted to a wild pitch.  Washington College responded with one run in the bottom of the first on two hits.  Old Westbury countered with another run in the second as Steve Henriquez scored from third on a wild pitch.  Washington College answered with six runs and seven hits in the bottom of the second to take a 7-2 lead.  Old Westbury replied with two more runs in the third as Joe Mazzarese led off with a single up the middle followed by a Ben Farmer walk.  Mazzarese was thrown out at third at the same time that Ben Farmer took second followed by stealing third.  Ryan Blanco grounded out to the shortstop as Farmer came across home plate for the score.  David Collado reached base after he was hit by the pitch and then stole second.  Emmanuel Mateo followed with a single to left to drive in Collado from second.  Mateo then swiped second before Kevin Reynolds was hit by the pitch and Steven Henriquez walked to load the bases for John Tagleinti.  Taglienti ended the inning by striking out with the bases loaded, as Old Westbury trailed 7-4.  George Pagan was charged with two more runs as he allowed a walk and a single in the fourth before Frank Russo Jr. came in for relief work.  Washington College added five more runs after being held scoreless in the previous two innings with Russo and Thomas Butler in relief.  Bill Campbell allowed five hits and was charged with five runs in the seventh.  Justin Morales threw one third of the eighth and Bryant Reyes tossed the other two thirds allowing Washington to score eight runs off six hits due in part to three errors.  Old Westbury came back with one run in the final frame as Anthony Fernandez walked to lead the inning off and stole second.  Jonathan Espinal singled to advance Fernandez to third.  Joshua Flett then reached on a fielder's choice where Espinal was gunned out at second as Fernandez came around from third for the score. 

Joe Mazzarese led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate and stole a game-high two bases along with one run.  Emmanuel Mateo went 1-for-3 with one run batted in.  George Pagan (0-2) was credited with the loss after he was limited to three innings of work and allowed 10 hits while being charged with nine earned runs.  Frank Russo Jr. threw two innings of scoreless two hit baseball followed by Thomas Butler, who tossed one shutout inning.

Old Westbury dominated Washington in the stolen base department with an 8-1 advantage despite being out-hit, 21-5.  On the defensive end, Old Westbury committed three errors as Washington College had two.
