PANTHER BASEBALL HURLERS GARNER WEEKLY AWARDS

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Baseball team was honored today as senior George Pagan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and sophomore Robert Whitenack (N. Massapequa, N.Y.) receiving weekly awards from the Skyline Conference. 

Pagan was named the Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Week after picking up a pair of victories as the Panthers went 5-1 in Skyline play this past week.  Pagan pitched a seven-inning shutout with six strikeouts in a 3-0 win over Yeshiva University.  He closed the week by allowing just one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in a nine-inning complete-game victory over Purchase College on Sunday.  On the season, Pagan (2-2) has a 5.73 earned run average over 33 innings pitched (3rd in Skyline Conference) with 29 strikeouts (T-4th in Skyline Conference).  In league play, Pagan (2-0) is sporting a .52 earned run average and has struck out 14 batters and is holding opponents to a .197 batting average in 17.1 innings of work

Whitenack was named an Honorable Mention selection to the Skyline Conference after giving up just one hit and one unearned run while striking out 11 in seven innings in an 11-1 victory over Mount Saint Vincent.  Whitenack had a no-hitter going until a double with two outs in the fifth inning broke it open.  On the season Whitenack (2-3) has a 3.24 earned run average with 38 strikeouts (1st in Skyline Conference) and is holding opponents to a .221 batting average over 41.2 innings (1st in Skyline Conference0.  In league play, Whitenack (2-0) has struck out 16 batters and is holding the opposition to a .80 batting average over 15 innings on the mound.
