PANTHER BASEBAL FALLS TO WILLIAM PATERSON, MATEO SMACKS TWO RUN HOME RUN

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Baseball team lost a 12-7 decision to William Paterson on Thursday evening at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury moves to 1-15 overall while William Paterson improves to 9-6 on the season.      

Panthers at the plate: Emmanuel Mateo was one of three Panthers to total multiple hits and led the squad with three runs batted in.  Mateo clubbed a monster two run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning and added a stolen base to cap off a 2-for-5 day at the plate.  Joe Mazzarese hit 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, one score and one stolen base while Kevin Reynolds went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles.  Bill Campbell (1-for-5) connected on a double and later scored when Ben Farmer drove him in from third via the sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the fourth.  Josh Flett (1-for-1) and Ivan Tineo (1-for-2) both singled and scored.  

Pioneers at the plate: Vincent Joyce led the Pioneers (3-for-5) with three singles and three runs batted in along with two runs scored.  Anthony Perrone (2-for-5) followed with a pair of singles to go along with three runs batted in and three scores while Derek Kippinger (2-for-6) had three scores.  Mike Guadango (2-for-2) and James Gregory (2-for-5) each double and scored one run while Vincent Ganz hit a pair of singles and drove in two Pioneers.    

Panthers on the mound: Dan Fordyce (1-1) tossed two innings on the mound and was hit for seven runs (0 earned) on eight hits.  George Pagan relieved Fordyce for two scoreless innings of one hit baseball, including two strikeouts.  Frank Russo Jr. followed with two innings of work in which he allowed four runs (1 earned) on five hits while sitting down three Pioneers on strikes.  Thomas Butler then pitched two innings in which he sent three Pioneers back to the dugout on strikes and was hit for one earned run on two hits.  Jorge Hiraldo pitched a scoreless ninth and allowed two hits. 

Pioneers on the mound: Darren Ritchie got the nod to start the game and went four innings while allowing three runs (2 earned) on six hits and handed out four free passes.  Paul Albanese relieved Ritchie and was credited with the win after throwing four innings in which he allowed four runs (1 earned) on five hits.  Albanese struck out a game-high five Panthers and walked one before Mark Robbins pitched a perfect ninth inning to close the door on Old Westbury. 

Game notes: Old Westbury was out-hit by William Paterson, 18-11, despite drawing even at 2-2 in the extra base hit department.  Old Westbury stranded nine Panthers while William Paterson left 11 Pioneers on base.  On the defensive front, Old Westbury committed four errors while William Paterson had two.  On the mound, Old Westbury struck out eight Pioneers and William Paterson stuck out five Panthers.
