PANTHER BASEBALL SWEEPS PAST YESHIVA

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Baseball team swept through Skyline Conference opponent, Yeshiva University on Wednesday night at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. Old Westbury improves to 5-16 overall and 3-1 in league play while Yeshiva drops to 0-17 on the season and 0-8 in conference action.
Panthers at the plate (Game 1): Thomas Butler led the Panthers with a pair of singles to finish 2-for-3 to lead the Panthers. Butler drove in two Panthers and scored one run while John Pensa (1-for-1) tripled home one run and scored one run. Joe Mazzarese (1-for-3) and Ryan Blanco (1-for-2) each drove in one run; scored one run and swept two bases. Emmanuel Mateo (1-for-4) and David Collado (1-for-3) each doubled home one run and scored one run.
Maccabees at the plate: Max Gornish led the Maccabees with a pair of singles and batted in Oren Schwartz (1-for-2) for Yeshiva's lone run. Gornish finished 2-for-4 at the plate while Austin Feld hit 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
Panthers on the mound (Game 1): George Pagan (1-2) tossed seven scoreless innings of seven hit baseball to earn his first victory of the season. Pagan registered six strikeouts and handed out one free pass. Frank Russo Jr. relieved Pagan for the final two innings in which he allowed one earned run on one hit while sitting down three Maccabees on strikes.
Maccabees on the mound (Game 1): Zachary Weiner threw eight innings on the mound and allowed eight runs (5 earned) on eight hits. Weiner struck out two Panthers and walked two.
Game notes (Game 1): Old Westbury drew even with Yeshiva in the hit column, 8-8, despite out-hitting the Maccabees in the extra base hit department, 3-1. On the base path, Old Westbury stole five bases and stranded three Panthers while Yeshiva swept one base and left seven Maccabees on base. In the field, Old Westbury was flawless as Yeshiva committed five errors. On the mound, Old Westbury combined for nine strikeouts and two walks while Yeshiva had two strikeout and two walks.
Panthers at the plate (Game 2): Thomas Butler connected on two singles to lead the Panthers with a perfect 2-for-2 performance. Butler singled home Ryan Blanco (1-for-3, RBI, SB) from third base in the fifth inning and swept one base. Matthew Gelormino (1-for-3) and Ben Farmer each scored one run, while Farmer had two stolen bases.
Maccabees at the plate (Game 2): Jeremy Schwartz led the Maccabees with a pair of singles to cap of a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Avraham Pinsky hit 1-for-3 while David Dayan went 1-for-2 with one walk.
Panthers on the mound (Game 2): Dan Fordyce (2-1) notched his second victory of the season after throwing a complete game shutout. Fordyce allowed just four hits while striking out five and walking one.
Maccabees on the mound (Game 2): Austin Feld threw six innings and was charged with three earned runs. Feld gave up four hits while striking out three Panthers and walking two.
Game notes (Game 2): Old Westbury and Yeshiva totaled four hits apiece. On the base path, Old Westbury stole four bases and stranded four Panthers while Yeshiva left six Maccabees on base. In the field, Yeshiva committed three errors while Old Westbury was perfect on the defensive front. On the mound, Old Westbury struck out five Maccabees and walked one as Yeshiva struck out three Panthers and walked two.
The Panthers return to the diamond on Saturday, April 5th to host Skyline Conference opponent, Mount Saint Vincent. First pitch of the double-header is slated for 12 noon.
