Jersey City, NJ--Last night the Skyline Conference announced the basketball All Conference Teams and three of Old Westbury Panthers made the cut. Junior Russell Brereton (Amityville, NY) and senior Christina Squillante (Levitown, NY) both made Second Team All Conference. Lady Panther Rachele Yambaye (Elmont, NY) received All Conference Honorable Mention.
This was Russell Brereton’s first year as a Panther and he is already making a name for himself. Standing at 6’4”, he contributed 369 points, 54 assists, 114 rebounds, and 47 steals this season for the Panthers. Brereton was able to contribute on different levels being a versatile player. He saw time in three of five positions: shooting guard, small forward, and power forward. Coach Tomlin said “Russ has been our defensive force this season; he was one of the best rebounders at the guard position and he was always matched up against the opponent’s best shooter.”
Christina Squillante has been a member of the Lady Panthers for the past four years and received All Conference Honorable Mention in her first three years. This season she receives Second Team All Conference after contributing 330 points, 20 assists, 178 rebounds, 14 blocks, and 34 steals. Squillante scored her career 1000th point on December 11th against conference rival USMMA and is the first known Lady Panther to do so. “Christina has been a tremendous asset and an outstanding leader for the team for each of the four years she has been with us” said Coach Krasnoff. Along with her achievements on the court Christina is also President of SAAC (Student Athletic Advisory Committee) and has been a member of both the cross country and softball teams.
Rachele Yambaye (Elmont, NY) has been a Lady Panther for the past three years. Despite missing six games this year she still led her team in rebounds retrieving 208 this past season. Yambaye also contributed 216 points, 41 assists, 29 blocks, and 16 steals. Rachele received the conference Player of the Week for the week of December 20th after scoring her career high of 25 points and 10 rebounds against York College. This is Rachele’s first time receiving honorable mention from the conference. Coach Krasnoff said “Rachele has come so far and I am looking for the best to come in her last year as a Panther.”
