Old Westbury Men and Women to Play Basketball Home Openers Tuesday
Nov 28, 2005

Old Westbury, NY The Old Westbury men's and women's basketball teams will kick off the 2005-06 home slate in a Tuesday night double-header at the Clark Athletic Center tomorrow. The women's game tips off at 6 pm, while the men follow at 8 pm.

The women's game will also serve as the 2005-06 Skyline Conference season opener, as the Panthers host Maritime College in the premier league game of the year. The Panthers opened the season on November 18 with a 69-67 win over Brooklyn College in the first round of the Ramapo Tip-Off Classic. On November 19, Old Westbury fell in the championship round to the host Roadrunners, 69-44. Danna Purnell, who averaged 10 points and six rebounds per game over the two-day event, was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Last year, Old Westbury and Maritime met twice during the regular season. The Panthers won both match-ups easily, winning 91-19 in the Bronx and 82-24 at home.

The men's game, scheduled to begin at 8 pm, will follow the women's and is the 2005-06 season opener for the Panthers. They are coming off of a 12-15 season and return eight players, including three starters from last year's squad.

Hunter and Old Westbury met once last year. The Panthers won that game on January 10, 2005, 83-56 at Hunter. The Hawks enter tomorrow's game with an 0-3 record, having dropped games to Lycoming, Kean and, most recently to Skyline member Manhattanville, 91-50.
