Both the Old Westbury women's and men's basketball teams have qualified for the 2006 Skyline Conference Tournament. With a 6-5 record, the women earned the No. 5 seed and will play No. 4 seeded Kings Point on Tuesday, while the men, who posted a 7-7 league mark, enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 Manhattanville also on Tuesday.

The women's team concluded its regular season on Thursday with a 64-29 win over Polytech. The win was the 14th of the season (14-8) for the Panthers, setting a new program record for most wins in a season.

Old Westbury has been led by Danna Purnell's 13.2 points per game this season. The junior guard also leads the team in assists with 102 on the season and has been a solid defender all year, picking up a team-best 88 steals thus far. Junior forward Monique Midy has also stepped up offensively, chipping in 10.4 points per game for the Panthers.

Old Westbury and Kings Point split their two regular-season match-ups this year, with each team picking up a home victory. Kings Point took the first game, a 67-54 decision on December 10. Four Mariners tallied double-figures in the win, led by Andrea Carey's 14. One month later, the Panthers outlasted Kings Point as Purnell sank three free throws in the final seconds and the Panthers took the double overtime thriller 78-76.

Mt. St. Mary, Stevens and Farmingdale State make up the top three seeds on the women's side, respectively.

The Old Westbury men's team enters the Skyline Tournament with a 14-11 overall record. In its last outing the team topped Briarcliffe 76-54 at home. Michael Garrett's 13.3 points per game have led Old Westbury on the season. The senior guard is shooting 42% from the field and has connected on a team-high 44 three-pointers. He also leads the Panthers in assists (86) and steals (48). Averaging 12.0 points, Russell Brereton is the team's second leading scorer, but is the Panthers' top rebounder, pulling down 5.4 boards per game.

The Valiants beat the Panthers 84-76 in Purchase, NY on December 3 in the Skyline opener. Manhattanville is 11-4 in the league and edged out Mt. St. Mary for the No. 2 seed via a tie-breaking procedure. The Valiants have won their last four games and seven of their last eight.

Farmingdale State is the No. 1 seed on the men's side, Mt. St. Mary is No. 3.

Both games will tipoff at 7:00 pm on Tuesday. The women will travel to Kings Point, the men to Purchase.
