PANTHERS FALL JUST SHORT AGAINST NEW PALTZ, 83-80

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - John Hauser scored a career-high 27 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and handed out 4 assists in his best effort so far this season in leading New Paltz to an 83-80 victory over Old Westbury on Wednesday.
New Paltz (6-4, 1-2 SUNYAC) built a 9 point advantage heading
into half-time, 37-28. The Panthers came out strong and went on an
early 10-0 run in the second to tie the game at 43-43. The
Panthers took their first lead of the second half on a dunk by
Garthlette James at 12:18. The Hawks trailed the Panthers
until 8:02, when an Amseshem Foluke-Henderson jumper put the Hawks
up for good at 58-56. The Hawks were up by as many as 10 before the
Panthers battled their way back into the game. Old Westbury
eventually made it a 2-point game as Kenneth Eusey made a three to
make the score 82-80, with 17 seconds remaining. But that is
as close as the Panthers would come before the close of a tough
loss on the road, 83-80.
The Panthers had five players in double-figures. Garthlette James led the Panthers with a season high 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting. James grabbed a game-high 8 rebounds (5 offensive) and nabbed 3 steals. Kenneth Eusey poured in 16 including 3 field goals from beyond the arc to go along with 2 steals and 2 assists. Divine Jackson added 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. Joshua Frazier scored 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting, grabbed 4 rebounds and tallied 3 steals. Dan Kane scored 11 points, 4 rebounds and recorded the Panthers lone block of the night. Brian Kuar scored 5 points and cleared 4 rebounds (3 offensive). Ian Johnson added 7 points, 6 rebounds and 1 steal.
The Hawks had four players in double-figures. Amseshem Foluke-Henderson registered 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting to go along with 7 rebounds (4 offensive), 3 assists and 1 steal. Tony Cannon added 12 points and 3 steals. Victor Alvarez came off the bench and scored 10 points including 2-of-3 from three-point land in addition to 2 assists and 2 steals. Matt Hauser grabbed 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Panthers shot 34-of-72 (47.2 percent) from the field and out-rebounded the Hawks by 1, 41-40 including 17 offensive rebounds. Old Westbury shot 7-of-17 from the free-throw line compared to 22-of-26 for New Paltz. New Paltz shot 27-of-59 (45.8 percent).
