EUSEY SCORES 31 AS OLD WESTBURY TOPS FARMINGDALE, 92-69

January 24, 2007

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Junior Kenneth Eusey scored 31 points and Ian Johnson added 15 as Old Westbury beat Farmingdale 92-69 on Wednesday.

Divine Jackson finished with 12 points, while Anthony Stowe had 14 for the Panthers (10-6, 6-2 Skyline Conference), who bounced back from a conference loss at Yeshiva over the weekend.

Peter Lipka led the way with 15 points for the Rams (10-5, 6-2).

It was another strong showing for Old Westbury's newcomers, who have shaken off the up-set this past weekend at Yeshiva, by relying on their always stingy defense. They held Farmingdale to 6-of-31 (19 percent) shooting percent in the first-half.

Old Westbury's offense looked fine, too, shooting 44 percent and maintaining a lead of about 20 points for most of the game.

Farmingdale managed just 6 field goals and were out-rebounded by 13 in the first half, 28-15 against Old Westbury's aggressive defense. On the other end, the Panthers had little trouble getting the shots they wanted, repeatedly getting into the lane or pulling up from beyond the arc, taking a 51-17 lead at the break.

Kenneth Eusey finished with a career-high 31 points on 7-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc and 8-of-8 from the charity stripe to go along with 4 steals and 4 rebounds.  Ian Johnson scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.  Divine Jackson scored 12 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and recorded 1 steal and 1 block.  Anthony Stowe came off the bench and added 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting including 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.  Garthlette James scored 7 points, pulled down 7 rebounds and nabbed 1 steal.  Dan Kane recorded 8 rebounds, 4 points, 3 blocks and 2 assists.

Damien Santana struggled for four points on 1-of-10 shooting while being chased by the Panthers roaring defense. Meanwhile, the 6-foot-7 Kane made things difficult inside for the Rams, altering plenty of shots and holding the Rams to 22 points in the paint.

The win lifts the Panthers into a four-way tie for first place in the Skyline Conference.  Old Westbury's shooting was lights out, connecting on 11-of-20 (55 percent) three-pointers and 30-of-67 (44 percent) field goals.  The Panthers out-rebounded the Rams by 14, 52-38. Old Westbury shot 21-of-26 from the free-throw line.  Old Westbury scored 17 points on 14 Farmingdale turnovers and capitalized on 18 second chance points.

Old Westbury will look to gain sole possession of first place as they will host Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday.  Tip-off is slated for 4 pm.  For more information about the Old Westbury Panthers, log onto http://www.oldwestburypanthers.com/, to follow your favorite sports and events.
