OLD WESTBURY DOMINANT IN 83-57 WIN OVER MARITIME

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -Old Westbury men's basketball improved to 2-0 on their current 3 game home stand with an 83-57 win over Maritime College. The Panthers opened up the second half on a 30-5 run and never looked back. Old Westbury improved their first place record to 12-6 overall and 8-2 in the Skyline. Maritime falls to 3-16 and 2-8 in conference play.
As the jubilant Panthers look towards Thursday's match-up with the U.S. Merchant Marine, Maritime (3-16, 2-8) will try to figure out what had hit them. While they're at it, Maritime might not want to look at the stat sheet, which showed that they had 21 turnovers, just short of their total field goals made, 22.
Ian Johnson led the way for the Panthers with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. Johnson added 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block in 25 minutes of action. Dan Kane poured in 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go along with 7 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 assists. Kenneth Eusey spread the offense around, finishing with a game-high 9 assists to go with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Divine Jackson scored 8 points, pulled down 6 rebounds, dished out 3 assists and nabbed 3 steals. Garthlette James added 8 points on 4-of-6 shooting, 5 rebounds and 1 steal.
Martime posted 4 players in double-digits. Lamar Fields led the way with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Joseph Bracaglia added 10 points, 9 rebounds and 1 steal. Timothy Dougherty finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Michael Stolberg added 11 points, 3 steals and 1 block.
Old Westbury led 30-22 in the first-half, shooting 42 percent. The Panthers caught fire in the second half connecting on 21-of-39 (53 percent) from the field. Old Westbury finished the game shooting 49 percent connecting on 33-of-67 attempts. Maritime shot 22-of-65 (33 percent) from the field. Old Westbury out-rebounded Maritime by 12, 42-29.
