MEN'S BASKETBALL CLAMPS DOWN ON YESHIVA TO WIN 71-63

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Men's Basketball team came away with a 71-63 decision against Skyline Conference opponent, Yeshiva University on Wednesday night at the Clark Athletic Center. Old Westbury climbs to 13-9 overall and 12-3 in league play while Yeshiva drops to 9-13 on the season and 6-9 in conference action.
The two teams traded baskets throughout the game and Old Westbury would maintain the lead for good at the 9:04 mark in the opening half when Ian Johnson sank a pair of free-throws, 18-17. Old Westbury hit 11-of-27 (40.7%) from the field in the first half and went into the half-way point with a 29-22 advantage. Old Westbury sizzled in the shooting department in the second-half, connecting on 17-of-28 (60.7%). The Panthers outscored Yeshiva, 42-41 in the final half en route to a 71-63 conference victory at home.
Garthlette James poured in a game-high 26 points to lead the Panthers. James connected on 12-of-19 from the field along with two steals. Ian Johnson added 19 points, including four triples and two steals while Shane DeNully dished out a game-high eight assists. Eddie Hood chipped in with eights points and a game-high three steals. Down low, Lester Prosper had eight points and 10 rebounds in addition two blocks as Tremain Gary grabbed five rebounds and registered two steals.
Yeshiva was led by Zachary Gordon's 24 point effort. Gordon landed 11-of-21 along with six rebounds and two steals. Alex Caster followed with 17 points including four triples while David Schaulewicz added 15 points and seven assists.
Old Westbury shot 50.9 percent for the game, making 28-of-55 field goals for the game, while holding Yeshiva to 44 percent. The Panthers grabbed 32 rebounds to Yeshiva's 29. Both teams didn't take good care of the ball resulting in 35 turnovers while Old Westbury swept away 12 steals.
