MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO YESHIVA IN OVERTIME

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old Westbury Men's Basketball team lost an 88-82 decision in overtime at the Clark Athletic Center on Tuesday evening to Yeshiva University in the quarterfinals round of the Skyline Conference tournament. Old Westbury stands at 16-10 overall while Yeshiva moves to 11-15.
Old Westbury and Yeshiva battled back and forth early in the first-half until the 12:30 mark when the Panthers went on a 31-16 run to close out the half. Old Westbury went into the half-way point with a 17-point cushion, up 43-26. Even though the Panthers held a 17 point advantage heading into the second-half, Old Westbury couldn't find a way to put the Maccabees away. With 6:22 remaining in the second-half, Yeshiva put together a 15-4 run to tie the game at 75 apiece with one minute to go. Garthlette James was unable to convert a go-ahead jumper with :11 seconds remaining in regulation as the game was sent into overtime. Yeshiva out-scored Old Westbury 11-5 in overtime, including 7-of-10 from the charity stripe. Yeshiva shot 19-of-26 (73.1%) from the floor in the second half, due in part to Zachary Gordon, who scored 23 of the final 29 points for Yeshiva. Gordon poured in 34 of his 41 points in the second-half and overtime to lead his team to victory.
Four Panthers registered in the double-digit point column, led by Ian Johnson's 20 points. Johnson added three triples, nine rebounds (6 offensive) and two steals while Garthlette James followed with 18 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Divine Jackson had 15 points and two steals as Shane DeNully totaled a game-high five steals and four assists. Tremain Gary chipped in with 14 points, nine rebounds and two steals off the bench at the same time as Anthony Stowe recorded four steals.
Yeshiva posted four players in double-digits, led by Zachary Gordon's 41 point effort. Gordon connected on 15-of-21 from the field, 11-of-13 from the free-throw line along with 16 pull-downs, four assists and one steal. Alex Caster followed with 15 points on 4-of-7 shooting from downtown in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Ben Lockspeiser had 12 points and David Schaulewicz added 11 points, three assists and two steals.
Old Westbury edged Yeshiva in the rebound department, 39-29, including 19-5 advantage off the offensive glass. The Old Westbury defensive attack forced 21 turnovers, resulting in 19 steals. Yeshiva shot 32-of-53 (60.4%) from the field while Old Westbury landed 31-of-73 (42.5%). Old Westbury's bench out-scored Yeshiva's 34-0.
