MEN'S HOOPS PICKED NO. 2 IN SKYLINE CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.-The 2008-09 SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team was selected second behind defending champion Farmingdale State.  The Panthers registered 75 points overall, with the reigning champion Rams reeling in 10 first place votes and 91 points overall. 

Head Coach Bernard Tomlin commented on Old Westbury being selected in the number-two spot in the preseason poll.  "It's a great league and we are looking forward to competing for the championship".

St. Joseph's College-L.I. was third in the poll with 71 points, followed by Maritime (56), Polytechnic (48), Mount Saint Mary (43), Purchase (36), Yeshiva (34), Mount Saint Vincent (30) and Bard (21).   

The Green and Ivory finished 2007-08 with a 16-10 record overall and a 15-3 Skyline Conference record, good enough for a third-place finish in the regular season. Old Westbury was stunned in the opening round of the Skyline Conference tournament, falling in overtime to Yeshiva, 88-82.

Old Westbury tips its 2008-09 season off on Friday, November 21 when the Panthers host Brooklyn College for the opening round of the Old Westbury Panther Classic.  Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. Husson University and Oswego State will tip-off the Old Westbury Classic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.  Championship game is set for Saturday, November 22 at 5:00 p.m. with the consolation game tipping-off at 3:00 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center.  Please visit www.oldwestburypanthers.com for more information on men's basketball or any of the other Panther athletic teams.
