The Panthers and the Ducks played an even first half, with Old Westbury taking an early 1-0 lead at the 22:27 mark. After defending its end for the early part of the first half, Old Westbury counter-attacked on three-straight sets. The third time down the field, the Panthers earned a corner kick and John Senatore launched the ball into the goal mouth. Shawn Holland was waiting in the center of the goal and headed the ball off the left post. Alex Renwart responded as the ball bounced back into play, and blasted the rebound into the goal for the 1-0 Panther lead.
Goalkeeper Brian Hicks made several impressive saves to keep Old Westbury in the first half, including back-to-back diving saves in the early minutes and stopped a breakaway with his feet 30 yards out of the net.
Old Westbury held off the Ducks, but as halftime approached, a foul was called on the Panthers, giving Stevens a free kick from just inside the sideline and about 15 yards out. With the clock ticking down, the official called a delay of game warning on Old Westbury and put five second back on the clock. Chris McGreevy crossed the ball for Stevens and found the head of Steve Liebezeit, who knocked it in for the tie score with one second remaining in the half.
Stevens scored its first of 10 second half goals six minutes into play, and allowed only one Old Westbury shot in the period. Liebezeit went on to finish with three goals for Stevens, while McGreevy tallied four.
Hicks finished with nine saves for Old Westbury in 81:33. Bryan Smith, who played for 8:27 of the second half, tallied two saves.
