Old Westbury, NY - The Ramapo men’s soccer squad, currently ranked No. 8 in the NSCAA/adidas national top-25 poll, topped the Old Westbury Panthers 3-0 in a non-league match-up this afternoon at Panther Park. Old Westbury falls to 4-8 overall with the loss.
Playing in less than desirable conditions due to poor weather in the New York area, the two teams battled it out early in the first half. Brian Hicks, in goal for Old Westbury, made two impressive saves in the first 12 minutes of action, as Ramapo’s offense put the pressure on the Panthers.
Ramapo’s Ryan Lahey put his team on the board at the 14:19 mark, as he headed in a corner kick by Benji Eggart for a 1-0 lead. Later in the first half, with just over five minutes remaining in the period, Michael Unger, who had previously subbed into the match, scored on a put-back after Hicks deflected a shot by Manolo Viotti.
Ramapo tallied its third and final goal at the 70:52 mark, as Chris Trimboli and Matt Chester teamed up for a 2-on-1 break against Hicks, with Trimboli claiming the final touch for the 3-0 Ramapo lead.
Hicks finished with 14 saves in just over 78 minutes for Old Westbury, while Emmanuel Zeon saw a light day in the net, making only one save in 90:00 minutes of action.
The Panthers are back in action at home on Saturday, October 15 against Mt. St. Mary. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
